Walksnail Ascent VRX Pro is a standalone receiver for the Walksnail Ascent digital video transmission system.

Walksnail Ascent is an HD system designed primarily for beginner and recreational pilots looking for an affordable alternative to analog video transmission. It supports 720p/120fps mode for lower latency (recommended) and 1080p/60fps mode for higher image quality. The system is primarily suitable for shorter-range flights, where it provides a significantly cleaner and more stable image than analog. Ascent supports OSD for both Betaflight and iNav. There are 3 standard channels and up to 8 channels in debug mode.

The receiver connects via HDMI output to FPV goggles with an HDMI input, a monitor, or a TV, allowing digital flying even with goggles without their own digital module. Compared to the standard Ascent VRX, the Pro version additionally offers 1080p/100fps and 1080p/120fps modes on the HDMI output, as well as UVC output via USB-C, allowing the image to be viewed simultaneously on a compatible phone, tablet, or computer — for example, for spectators or recording. Higher frame rates in 1080p are only useful with a display that accepts a 100/120Hz signal. When used with the Ascent Lite+ video transmitter and firmware V18.21.10 or newer, the receiver also transmits live audio to an HDMI display with speakers and enables synchronized audio recording (in 720p/60, 720p/100, 720p/120, and 1080p/60fps modes).

Reception is provided by two Red Bird Pro antennas with LHCP polarization and 2.8dBi gain, connected via RP-SMA connectors. The manufacturer states a range of up to 8km in open terrain with line of sight. Bandwidth can be set to 5, 10, or 20MHz, or automatically according to current interference, helping balance image quality and link stability. The received image is recorded to a microSD card up to 256GB in MP4 (H.264) format with selectable recording bitrate of 2-50Mbps; the OSD menu can also be captured in the recording, which is useful for tutorials and sharing settings. The receiver also supports playback of recordings directly from the menu.

It is controlled with a five-way joystick and buttons for pairing, recording, and menu back. Active cooling with a fan maintains stable temperatures even during extended operation. It is powered through a coaxial DC 5.5x2.1mm connector with 7.4-25.2V, i.e. from a 2-6S battery; USB-C is used for firmware updates via Caddx PC Tool and for UVC output, not for power during flight. The six-pin SH1.0 connector enables connection to a flight controller or RC transmitter (SBUS, UART for ELRS passthrough, or MAVLink). There is a 1/4" thread on the bottom for a tripod or monitor mount. It weighs 140g without antennas.

The receiver works exclusively with video transmitters from the Walksnail Ascent system. It is not compatible with analog transmitters or other digital systems, including Walksnail Avatar. Before first use, we recommend updating both the receiver and video transmitter to the latest matching firmware version.

Do not power on the receiver without antennas connected, and do not connect or disconnect antennas while powered.
