VAS Micro SwitchBlade Short is an ultralight omnidirectional antenna with right-hand circular polarization RHCP, an u.FL connector, and operates in the 5.8GHz band. With a weight of just 1 gram, it is suitable for the transmitting side of micro drones, whoops and toothpicks, where every gram counts.
The antenna is based on the patented VAS Ion radiator technology (U.S. patents no. 10 608 346 and 11 088 462) and achieves a gain of 2.25dBic with an axial ratio of 0.92. An axial ratio close to one means the radiated field is almost perfectly circular — thanks to this, the antenna effectively suppresses signal reflections from terrain and obstacles („multipathing"), which in analog transmission appear as noise and image breakup. Despite its miniature dimensions, it delivers performance comparable to full-size antennas and is among the lightest truly circularly polarized antennas on the market.
The radiator is designed to be flexible, so it can withstand crashes and impacts common in freestyle flying. The short version („Short") has an overall length of 38mm and the cable ends with an u.FL connector.
Video Aerial Systems (VAS) is an American company focused on antenna development and manufacturing. It holds several of its own patents and their antennas are among the absolute best.
