MicoAir MSTAR24-F is the air module of the MSTAR24 telemetry system, which operates in one-to-many mode ("point-to-multipoint"). It connects to the drone flight controller via UART and communicates with the ground module MSTAR24-BASE, which can handle up to 8 aircraft simultaneously. It operates in the 2.4GHz band with transmit power of up to 500mW and uses LoRa spread-spectrum modulation, which makes the link resistant to interference. The package includes 2 pieces.

The module has one JST-GH1.25 4P connector with GND, 5V, RX and TX pinouts for connection to the flight controller serial port (typically TELEM1 / Serial1) and is powered from it by 5V. The module's TX connects to the flight controller's RX and vice versa. The second interface is USB with an on-board CP2102 converter, through which the module is configured from a computer. The antenna connects via an SMA connector. Connection status is indicated by a green LED — when connected, it stays on continuously.

Each air module gets its own slave ID in the range 0-7, which determines which serial channel of the ground module (ChA to ChH) the aircraft appears on. The module address and communication frequency must match across the entire set. The data rate is adjustable in four steps from 2.4KB/s to 20KB/s; in one-to-many mode only the two highest steps are used and the available bandwidth is shared among all connected aircraft. We recommend setting the number of air modules on the ground unit to the actual number of flown aircraft, otherwise bandwidth is unnecessarily shared even among unused channels.

In addition to one-to-many mode ("network"), the module also supports classic two-way one-to-one transmission ("duplex") and one-way transmission or reception ("broadcast"). Transmission is transparent, so in addition to the MAVLink protocol, any other serial data can also pass through the link. Parameters are set in the MicoAssistant application (version 0.9.16 and newer).

The module works only with the MSTAR24-BASE ground module, which is not included in the package (sold separately). Flight controllers with ArduPilot and PX4 firmware communicating via the MAVLink2 protocol are supported. Each flight controller in the swarm must have its own system ID (SYSID_THISMAV in ArduPilot, MAV_SYS_ID in PX4), otherwise the ground station will not be able to distinguish them. MSTAR24 firmware is not compatible with LR24, LR868 and LR900 telemetry series — the modules will not connect to each other.
